Adventcalendar: Dec. 5th - light or lights

Dec. 5th - light or lights - John 8:12

"Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world;
he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Have you ever thought about how the tiniest of lights can dispel any darkness, but darkness can never extinguish the tiniest of lights?  Light is powerful! It exposes what may otherwise stay hidden.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.  The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (overcome)  it."  John 1:1-5
Jesus came as the Light into the world. Yes, He came to expose sin, but He also came to expose Truth. God does not wish for us to walk around stumbling through the darkness; He gave us the Light (Jesus) to follow.

This Christmas devotion also reminds us that it is in the light that we experience all the wonder of Go!
One of the most amazing wonders that light reveals is COLOR!  Can you imagine a world with no color?!  Can you imagine Christmas with no color?!  God places tiny little cones in our eyes that interact with the presence of light to cause us to see the colors of the rainbow all around us.

God desires for us to not only see the beauty of His creation, but for it to be defined by colors and shades.  Now that I am getting older, it seems I need even more light to help my eyes see clearly words on a page or recognize the faces of people when it's dark or see objects on the road up ahead.

In the same way, God's desires for us to draw close to Him and allow His Light to enable us to see His Truth and not be fooled by the distorted twisted truth Satan desires for us to see.  Jesus is the Light; He is also the Truth.  As light clarifies what our eyes see, so Jesus clarifies the Truth of Who God is.

As you notice all the Christmas lights this season, let them remind you of our Amazing God and His love for us!  He loves us so much He came into the world as Light and Life, and with Jesus in our lives, we can shine His Light to others this Christmas season and throughout this New Year!

2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Philippians 2:14-16 “Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16 as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.”
